What is the Air Quality Flag Program?
The EPA School Flag Program uses colored flags to show daily air quality based on the EPA’s Air Quality Index. It raises public awareness and helps organizations protect children from pollution on days with poor air quality. There are 75 Montana organizations—schools, clinics, non-profits, a library, and a fire department—that have adopted the program. Twenty-eight locations received Purple Air monitors to measure AQI, crucial since Montana has only 20 permanent stations. Over a thousand people have been trained to fly flags and to learn about the health impacts of climate change.
How to Join the Program:
1. HANG AN AIR QUALITY FLAG AT YOUR ORGANIZATION: Email us at infor@montanahphc.org. We provide information, flags, and educational materials.
2.PUT A WIDGET ON YOUR ORGANIZATION’S COMPUTERS
AirNow: The U.S. government provides the AirNow Flag Program Widget to display current local air quality data, tomorrow’s forecast, and health activity guidance.
